TOKASH BOKIN (1890-1918) – a participant of the struggle for the establishment of Soviet power in Semirechye and Verniy (Almaty), national liberation revolt of 1916 in Semirechye.

He was born in a family of poor herders-nomad in Almaty oblast. In 1898-1906 he studied in a men?s gymnasium in Verniy. In 1916 he was an active participant of national liberation movement in Semirechye. After this he was arrested. Then Tokash was released after the fall of the imperial power When in 1918 the Semirechye Regional Peasant Congress was held, Bolsheviks S.Zhuravlev, L.Yemelin, R.Marechek and T.Bokin made a decision on the transition of power to the Soviets. On March 4, 1918 Tokash Bokin announced that the Kazakh workers welcomed the Soviets power, from which they could expect just solution of national issue. They were ready to help the Russian people, peasants and the Kazakhs to build a new life on equal terms. T.Bokin actively participated in creation of the village and rural peasant Soviets. He was killed in September, 1918. In 1967 a monument to him was erected in Almaty. The street in Almaty and the village in the Ili district are named after Tokash Bokin.
