Tokayev expressed gratitude to President Gnassingbé for accepting the invitation to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan. According to the Kazakh Head of State, the visit of the Togolese President opens the way for the development of relations between the countries and confirms the high level of Kazakhstan’s relations with the African continent.
Strengthening cooperation with African countries is one of the key areas of foreign policy of Kazakhstan. Although our countries are far away from each other, we’re ready to establish close contacts with Togo. We fully support the country’s desire for mutually beneficial cooperation. Next year, we mark 10 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Togo. Since then, the cooperation based on friendship and mutual support, that can be given a new impetus given huge potential, has been strengthened. We just now discussed this issue and reached important agreements. All of this contributes to the activization of the ties in political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian and other spheres, said Tokayev.
The Kazakh Head of State noted that he held talks with the Togolese President on issues regarding agriculture, new technologies, joint development of natural resources, production, and investment.
We agreed to instruct the governments of our countries to take concrete measures to increase the trade turnover. In particular, it was noted that Kazakhstan has huge potential to export grain crops to Togo. As known, at the initiative of our country, the Islamic Organization for Food Security was set up. I called on Togo to join the Organization and benefit from it, said the Kazakh President.
In addition, the Kazakh Head of State called on Togolese entrepreneurs to attend the Astana International Forum in Astana to get familiarized with the economic potential of Kazakhstan, Tokayev added.
The two Heads of State also exchanged views on the issues of global and regional security.
For his part, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé stated that Togo pays special attention to the cooperation with Kazakhstan and is interested in the development of strategic partnership both at the interregional and continental levels.
I believe that Togo may be of interest to Kazakhstani investors as the country that established the trade turnover with the countries of West Africa with the total population of over 300 million people. Today, Kazakhstan holds huge capacity to supply grain to Togo. Your country has reached great success in digitalization. We also seek to carry out digitalization projects in our country and establish cooperation in this direction. We could learn a lot from you in this area, said President Gnassingbé.
