Tokayev discusses Kazakhstan-China energy cooperation with SPIC Chairman Liu Mingsheng

As part of his working trip to China, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has met with Liu Mingsheng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of State Power Investment Corporation, Kazinform News Agency learned from the Akorda press office.

The parties discussed the prospects for further cooperation in energy, including the renewable energy sources.

SPIC’s subsidiary China Power International Holding has been operating in Kazakhstan for several years, with a wind power plant launched in Zhanatas and a solar power station in Karaganda.

The Kazakh President was informed about implementation of new investment projects on construction of wind power plants with the total capacity of 1GW in Zhambyl and Pavlodar regions with an approximate amount of investments exceeding $1 billion.

Liu Mingsheng also told Kassym-Jomart Tokayev about the prospects of implementation of large-scale hydroenergy projects and construction of combined gas cycle turbines in Kazakhstan.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said Kazakhstan is interested in attraction of the best international technologies and practices in RES sector.He invited Liu Mingsheng to participate in the Astana International Forum slated for June.

On March 28, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev participated in the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia plenary session held annually in China’s Hainan province. This year’s edition is held under the motto “Asia and the World: Common Challenges, Shared Responsibilities.”
