Tokayev expresses support for Kyrgyzstan in promoting its candidacy for non-permanent seat in UN Security Council
Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed wishes of success to Kyrgyzstan, as the latter eyes a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council in 2027-28, during the meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States and the Federal Chancellor of Germany in the Kazakh capital of Astana, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
The Head of State pointed out that the countries, participating in the meeting, closely cooperate in multilateral format, including within the UN, and intend to further support strongly the work of this universal organization in the issues regarding fight against terrorism, extremism, illegal migration and climate change, peacekeeping and disarmament.
Kazakhstan also stands ready to be fully engaged in the UN Reform processes.
We believe that a number of developed countries, especially Germany, undoubtedly deserve a permanent seat in the UN Security Council. Taking the opportunity, I would like to express every success to the Kyrgyz Republic in promoting its candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2027/28. I’m convinced that Kyrgyzstan could significantly contribute to greater stability and security in Central Asia and beyond, stated the Kazakh leader.
Earlier it was reported that the Presidents of Central Asian countries and Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz arrived at the Independence Palace in Astana for the second Summit “Central Asia + Germany,” during which strategic cooperation and partnership in a wide range of areas, including trade and economic interaction and realization of joint investment projects, were set to be discussed.

Following the talks between President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Federation Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, the Joint Declaration on Cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Federal Republic of Germany was signed
As was previously reported, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov welcomed Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, who had arrived in Kazakhstan upon the Kazakh President’s invitation, at the airport in Astana.
