Tokayev hails the country’s record grain harvest at 1st Agriculture Workers’ Forum in Astana
Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev addressed the first-ever Agriculture Workers’ Forum, that kicked off in Kazakh capital Astana, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
Greeting the attendees, Kazakh leader Tokayev offered his congratulations ahead of the Agricultural Worker, Food and Processing Industry’s Workers Day.
It’s symbolic that this forum coincides with another landmark event – 70 years since the beginning of development of virgin lands in Kazakhstan. Apparently, you know that the results of this large-scale campaign received a mixed response. However, it is the development of virgin lands that brough about significant positive changes in the domestic agriculture sector, with Kazakhstan becoming one of the major grain-growing countries in the world, stated the Kazakh President.
The Head of State highlighted that there have been significant improvements in the country’s social infrastructure, with new settlements emerged on the map.
We just visited the specialized exhibition. Our major accomplishment is the high-quality domestic products, the bulk of which goes for export. Kazakhstan is the 6th largest country in the world when it comes to arable land and pastures. Our country is ranked among the top 10 wheat exporting countries of the world; we’re also among the world’s leaders in flour export. Despite that this year turned out to be difficult, we managed to collect a record of 26.7 million tons of grain for the last 10 years, said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
To note, the Kazakh capital of Astana is hosting the 1st Agriculture Workers’ Forum.
