Tokayev highlights importance to promote Padel, world’s rapidly growing racquet sport

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Tourism and Sport Minister Yerbol Myrzabossynov, during which the former heard a report on the implementation of the tasks regarding complex reforming of the domestic sports industry, Kazinform News Agency cites Akorda.  

During the meeting, President Tokayev was briefed about the promotion of children’s and youth sport, continued training of judges and specialists, reduction in the number of foreign players and optimization of federations’ activities.

According to Myrzabossynov, work is underway to implement a vertical management system in the field of sport. Members of the dedicated group under the ministry conducted a comprehensive analysis of the state of the sports industry in the regions. Besides, a working group has been set up to develop amendments to the existing law on physical culture and sport. Systemic work is ongoing to boost cooperation with international federations and update sports infrastructure.

The Head of State was also informed about the measures aimed at increasing the tourist potential of the country. In particular, the Neo Nomad Visa project, offering new opportunities to foreign travelers, has been launched. Upon the President’s instruction, a comprehensive plan for developing the Almaty mountain cluster, beach tourism in Mangistau and Burabay resorts is under development. The Gambling Business and Lottery Committee has been founded; work is ongoing to combat gambling addiction.

In conclusion, the President set a number of tasks before the minister regarding further improvement of the sport and tourism sphere. In particular, the need was stressed to enhance work on preparation for the upcoming international sports tournaments as well as pay attention to the promotion of Padel, a racquet sport, which is rapidly growing in popularity.
