MOSCOW. KAZINFORM - Kazakhstan is the author of a number of initiatives that contribute to the effectiveness of multidimensional UN activities, this has been said by Senate Speaker Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev during a speech to faculty members and students of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to his words, Kazakhstan has initiated the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia, the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), the regional peacekeeping forces with the participation of Kazakh battalion "Kazbat" under the auspices of the UNPO. In addition, Kazakhstan proposed a resolution to declare August 29 as the day of closing the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site and as the International Day against Nuclear Tests the International Day of Action against nuclear weapons. He also noted that Kazakhstan has put forward its candidacy for a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2017-2018.
