‘Toothy torpedo’ fishing tournament held in Kapchagay
The tournament "Toothy torpedo" was attended by 17 fishermen, "Express K" newspaper reported. Snakeheads fingerlings moved to Kazakhstani ponds and lakes with babies of carps and silver carps. These elongated, predatory fish are distinguished by their long dorsal fins, large mouths, and shiny teeth. Snakeheads carry eggs rather quickly - they guard eggs and brood. Snakeheads can become invasive species and cause ecological damage because they are top-level predators, meaning they have no natural enemies outside of their native environment. They can not only breathe atmospheric air but survive on land for up to four days. They are known to migrate up to 1/4 mile on wet land to other bodies of water by wriggling with their body and fins. Snakeheads are considered valuable food fish. Participants of the tournament used their own tactics and different lures, usually silicone frogs, to catch the fish. Championship lasted 5 hours. After summing up the jury announced the winners. Third place went to Nikita Vasilchuk, "silver" was taken by a debutant Andrei Matveyev, and the third place was won by Yerbolat Asirov. Fishermen agreed to re-cross the rods in early September at the tournament on catching catfish.
