Tourism generates over KZT1bn in one district of Almaty region

Uygur district of Almaty region continues to grow in popularity among tourists, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

In nine months of last year, accommodation facilities received 91,481 people in Uygur district, 24% of the region’s total tourist arrivals, with their revenues exceeding 1 billion tenge.

According to Almaty region’s authorities, Uygur district’s 84 tourist facilities include cozy recreation areas, one-storey bungalows, country houses and chalets.

The district’s tourist magnet is its hot springs, with guests are offered a variety of wellness treatments. Geothermal waters are famous for their healing properties, while convenient infrastructure with pools and catering facilities offer the highest levels of comfort.

Around 700 people are employed in Uygur district’s recreation areas, with additional staff hired during peak seasons.

One of the key attractions of Almaty region remains the Charyn Canyon, which sees thousands of tourists, including foreign ones, annually.

Earlier it was reported that 1.7 million tourists travelled to Almaty in three quarters of last year.
