Tourist visitor center to be built in Tamgaly petroglyph site

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Tourist visitor center will be built this year in Tamgaly petroglyph site, listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, said Director of the Department for Culture and Arts under the Ministry of Culture and Sports Aktoty Raiymkulova at today's briefing in Central Communications Service.

According to her words, there has been already prepared project documentation. She recalled that the road leading to the reserve has been renovated. Tamgaly is located 170 km to northwest of Almaty. The petroglyphs are mostly Bronze Age. The name "Tamgaly" in Kazakh and other Turkic languages means "painted or marked place". Tamgaly became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.
