TPP 3 in Semey to be built on left bank of Irtysh river

Governor of Abai region Nurlan Urankhayev together with the leadership of JSC Samruk Energy held a working meeting for discussing the construction of the Thermal Power Plant 3, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the local mayor’s office

The region has already to developing the project's feasibility study.

An operational working group was set up and the site for building the TPP was chosen (left bank of the Irtysh River, Stepnoy village).

According to the regional akimat, the TPP’s electrical and heating capacity must be at least 360MWt and 1,200 Gcal/hr.

The city’s further demand in electrical and heat power will be defined while developing its general layout.

In November 2023, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Energy of Russia entered into a memorandum of cooperation in construction of a thermal power plant in Semey. Besides, an agreement between JSC Samruk-Kazyna and Inter RAO-Export was signed.
