Turkistan region – popular destination among Uzbek tourists
The number of foreign tourists visiting Turkistan region in 2024 increased by 45%, with Uzbek citizens composing majority of them, Kazinform News Agency reports.
More than 500,000 tourists visited Turkistan region as of the 3rd quarter of 2024. 235,000 of them stayed in hotels and hostels, 136,400 stayed in recreation facilities and 128,600 preferred to rest in designated natural areas.
Last year, the number of one-day visitors surged to 900,000. Thus, 638,800 tourists visited Azret Sultan Museum Reserve, and 241,200 visited Otyrar Reserve.
According to E-Qonaq, 21,121 foreign tourists visited Turkistan region in 2024, which is 45% more compared to the previous year – 14,510.
The majority of the tourists is from Uzbekistan – 10,825. Then come Russia – 1,411, China - 983, Türkiye - 744 and Kyrgyzstan – 435.
“This year we plan to raise the number of foreign tourists to 550,000, and one-day tourists – to 1 million people,” Nurdaulet Medeuov, chief of the regional tourism department, says.
Earlier, Kazinform reported that Turkistan city will receive special status.
