Turkmenistan celebrates designation of Anau as Cultural Capital of Turkic World 2024

On March 26, the city of Ashgabat launched celebrations to honor the proclamation of the Turkmen city of Anau the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2024, with the opening ceremony held at the White Yurt Concert Hall at the Novruz YaylasySquare, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The TV and Radio Complex of the President of Kazakhstan was also invited to join the festivities.

The decision to declare Anau the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2024 was announced following the 39th session of the Permanent Council of the TURKSOY Ministers of Culture.

The Cultural Capital of the Turkic World project was launched by TURKSOY in 2010 during the Summit of the Heads of Turkic-Speaking Countries in Istanbul.

The first cultural capital was Astana, Kazakhstan (2012). In different years, this status was granted to Eskişehir, Türkiye (2013), Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia (2014), Merv, Turkmenistan (2015), Sheki, Azerbaijan (2016), Turkistan, Kazakhstan (2017), Kastamonu, Türkiye (2018), Osh, Kyrgyzstan (2019), Khiva, Uzbekistan (2020), and Bursa, Türkiye (2022).

An international press conference “Turkmen Land - The Center of Ancient Civilizations” is also planned to be held in Ashgabat. The event is dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Turkmen poet Magtymguly Pyragy.
