U.S. Embassy handed special vehicles to Kazakhstan's police

ASTANA. March 19. KAZINFORM - The U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan as part of technical assistance presented 26 vehicles to the Committee on Anti-Narcotics Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan.

At the ceremony attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan Kalmukhanbet Kasymov and delegation of the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan under the leadership of Ambassador Kenneth Fairfax.

According to the Minister, the vehicles received as a gift will be used in the regions of the country in search operations and investigations to combat drug trafficking.

11 cars of Skoda Octavia, made in Kazakhstan, as well as 15 special automobiles GAZ-2705-288 to transport search dogs have been purchased as part of Department of Defense Drug Enforcement project.

"The government of Kazakhstan is taking the necessary measures against the transit of drugs. To date, there is a special program for 2012-2016 with a budget of KZT 6 billion, aimed at strengthening the state border and customs, as well as for the purchase of special equipment for drug detection. However, the U.S. Embassy in the country has a great help, " said K.Kasymov.

"In recent years we have achieved many positive results. Thus, the number of drug addicts has decreased by 12%, and drug abuse among juveniles by 20%. To achieve these results we need modern technology, " he added.
