Ukraine official says no talks with USA on missile defence program

LONDON. October 22. KAZINFORM. Ukraine's First Deputy Defence Minister Valery Ivashchenko said that Kiev had not held negotiations with the USA on possible participation in the U.S. missile defence programme; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

The Ukrainian official is in Sofia, where he takes part in a session of defence ministers of Southeast European countries. "We received a message from the USA that Washington will not involve in its missile defence non-NATO countries," Ivashchenko said.

He noted, however, that Ukrainian radars in Sevastopol could track "Iranian missiles". European media outlets have quoted Ivashchenko; Kazinform cites Itar-Tass. See for full version.
