UN contributed greatly to improving quality of life of population in Central Asia - G. Abdykalikova

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Secretary of State Gulshara Abdykalikova met with Director of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities in Central Asia Nikolai Botev today.

"Your representation works not just in Kazakhstan but everywhere in Central Asia. You made a great contribution to stable development and improvement of the quality of life of the population in the countries where you work," G. Abdykalikova said.

She also noted that several projects were implemented in Kazakhstan over the last 5 years jointly with the UNFPA.
"I would like to note the projects dedicated to demographic issues. Foreign specialists were attracted to the work here. Besides, several projects in the sphere of reproductive health were successfully implemented," she noted.

She also emphasized that thanks to the conducted work the infant and maternal mortality reduced significantly in the recent five years.

"In 2008-2009, the mortality rate made 36.8 per 100 thousand and in 2014 this indicator totaled 11.5%. Obviously, we still have a lot of work to do," G. Abdykalikova added.
