Answering the questions, Head of the UN assessed Kazakhstan's OSCE chairmanship as very successful.

In his interview Ban Ki-moon praised Kazakhstan's initiatives on strengthening the interaction between the largest global integration organizations, like the UN and the OSCE. He noted that both international structures pursue one goal - maintaining global peace and security. The UN Secretary General highlighted Kazakhstan's contribution to regulation of the situation in Kyrgyzstan and called Kazakhstan as "pioneer" in reduction of nuclear threat and of the leaders in implementation of the millennium goals. Ban Ki-moon considers that the OSCE Summit in Astana will become an important platform for discussing the issues of global and regional security accumulated over 11 years.

"Recently I have raised the issue of necessity of holding the OSCE Summit in Astana at the OSCE Headquarters in Vienna. In it activity the OSCE focuses on such important directions as ensuring peace and stability, observance of human rights, global disarmament, sustainable development, environmental protection. I hope that the Summit in Astana will focus also on trans-border problems. Within its presidency in this authoritative organization Kazakhstan has confirmed its potential and solvency, especially during solution of the political crisis in Kyrgyzstan", he said.

"Kazakhstan can play an important role in nuclear disarmament. My recent visit to Semipalatinsk nuclear testing site was quite inspiring. I would recommend everybody to follow the example of Nursultan Nazarbayev who has closed the nuclear polygon and renounced its nuclear arsenal. Under N. Nazarbayev's leadership Kazakhstan has become a "pioneer" of making the Central Asian region the nuclear-weapons-free zone. I also appreciate the Kazakh President's initiative on announcing August 29 the Day against Nuclear Tests. I hope, the UN will continue cooperating with Kazakhstan in building the nuclear-weapons-free world", the UN Secretary General resumed.
