UN Under-Secretary-General S. Ordzhonikidze: Kazakhstan - active and influential participant in international relations
The parties discussed bilateral relations and participation of Kazakhstan in the UN activities on disarmament, dialogue of civilizations, regional cooperation.
K. Saudabayev expressed appreciation for the support of Astana's international initiatives received from the UN Office at Geneva. He noted the importance of further continuation of coordinated interaction in order to achieve common goals.
S. Ordzhonikidze said that Kazakhstan was an active and influential participant in international relations. "OSCE Summit in Astana is a great success for Kazakh diplomacy", UN Under-Secretary-General noted. The parties noted the significance of the entry into force of the treaty establishing a nuclear-weapon-free zone in Central Asia. Mr. Ordzhonikidze thanked Kazakhstan for strong support for the enactment of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.
He also noted the contribution of Kazakhstan in strengthening international security. Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) established at the initiative of President Nursultan Nazarbayev was called a serious organization taking a worthy place in the modern system of international relations.
The issues regarding the security in Central Asian region were touched upon as well.
