UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office turns into Regional Multi-Sector Office

State Councilor Erlan Karin said the National Commission of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ICESCO intensified its activities in 2023. In particular, the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office is reformed as the Regional Multi-Sector Office of the organization and covers seven countries of the region, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran. The permanent representation of Kazakhstan to UNESCO opened in Paris. Kazakhstan was for the first time elected the president of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations, Kazinform News Agency reports.

It is noteworthy, Kazakhstan joined the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. The Altyn Emel National Park and Barsakelmes Nature Reserve were included in the World Heritage List as a part of the transnational nomination Cold Winter Deserts of Turan. The 100th anniversary of writer Berdibek Sokpakbayev, and composer Nurgisa Tlendiyev, were included in the 2024-2025 UNSECO list of anniversaries and commemorations. Kazakhstan initiated declaring May 20 the World Metrology Day.

Besides, at the invitation of the Head of State, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay visited Kazakhstan this year, the post on his Telegram Channel reads.

Karin added in 2024 the National Commission will further work on the protection of Kazakhstan’s heritage through all UNESCO's five major programme areas: education, science, culture, information, and communication.
