UNESCO congratulated ?Nevada-Semipalatinsk? Movement on 20th anniversary
ASTANA. March 2. KAZINFORM /Aigul Tulekbayeva/ ?UNESCO Secretary General Koichiro Matsuura sent a felicitation to International Antinuclear Movement ?Nevada-Semipalatinsk? on the 20th anniversary of its initiation?, official representative of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry Yerzhan Ashikbayev has said today at the briefing, Kazinform reports.
?Initiated in Kazakhstan in 1989, the Movement had not only contributed to closing of the Polygon,t but induced other states to follow the lead. ?Nevada-Semipalatinsk? successfully called for respect of human rights through drawing attention to human and ecological problems, provoked by the nuclear tests?, the message reads.
Y.Ashikbayev reminded that the UNESCO decided to add the documents of the Movement to ?Memory of the World? register in 2005.
