UNHCR: Almost 200,000 Syrian refugees return home since Dec
Almost 200,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country since December 2024, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi , WAM reports.

As of 16th January, about 195,200 Syrians have returned home, according to figures posted by Grandi on social media platform X.
“Soon I will visit Syria — and its neighbouring countries — as UNHCR steps up its support to returnees and receiving communities,” he added.
Since early December, nearly 200,000 Syrians have returned home, in addition to about 500,000 who went back during last year’s conflict in Lebanon. UNHCR estimates that over 550,000 Syrians returned home in 2024, with northern Aleppo governorate receiving the largest proportion of returnees, about 23 percent.
According to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, as December 20, 2024, 33 citizens of Kazakhstan were staying in Syria. Most of them are Kazakhstani women married to Syrian nationals and have children.
