Union of Filmmakers of Turksoy countries set up in Tashkent

The Union (Association) of Filmmakers of the Turkic World has been set up in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, upon the initiative of Turksoy, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports. 

The founding meeting saw the participation of the heads of film industries of the Turkic-speaking countries.

According to the press service of Turksoy, attending the event were head of Azerbaijan’s Film Agency Orkhan Fikretogly, President of the Kazakhfilm Association Azamat Satybaldy, head of the Agency of Cinematography of Uzbekistan Firdos Abdukhalikov, director general of the Turkish Film Administration Erkin Yilmaz, director of the Film Administration of Kyrgyzstan Akzhol Bekbolotov, as well as Turksoy representative on cinematography Salim Ezer.

The newly established Association aims at reviving the Turkic world’s filmmaking, creating joint projects, joint production of new films, as well as bringing best films to the international arena, and establishing a single system of distribution of the Turkic-speaking countries’ films.

The creation of a Film Academy of the Turkic World set to become a platform for Turkic peoples’ joint film projects is planned in the future.
