Unique surgeries on women expecting twins performed in Kazakhstan

Five women expecting twins underwent successful surgeries in Almaty, Kazinform News Agency cites the Healthcare Ministry’s press service.

Doctors of the Almaty Perinatal Medicine and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Center performed laser coagulation of vascular anastomosis on five women pregnant with twins diagnosed with fetal pathologies as part of the workshop. Surgeons performed unique surgeries to save the lives of developing fetuses while still in the uterus at 20, 21 and 27 weeks of gestation.

Notably, the Almaty Perinatal Medicine and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Center is the first pilot project of the Kazakh Healthcare Ministry to introduce and develop fetal surgery in Kazakhstan.

Fetal surgery is a surgical treatment performed to treat pathologies in babies before they are born.

The workshop was held this December with the support of the Kazakh Healthcare Ministry, Almaty akimat, and Ayala Charitable Fund at the Almaty Perinatal Medicine and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Center.

It is noteworthy, the surgeons of the Batpenov National Scientific Traumatology and Orthopaedics Center performed a unique nine-hour finger reattachment surgery.
