United States sponsors journalism workshop on influenza and infectious disease

ALMATY. November 5. KAZINFORM On November 2-3, the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs of the U.S. Department of State has sposored sponsor a workshop for journalists, "Influenza and Infectious Disease: Getting the Story Out" at the Intercontinental Hotel in Almaty.

The U.S. Department of State recently has launched an initiative to assist media in the region to develop accurate and effective methods to communicate health information to the public. Regional and international experts from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization on avian and pandemic influenza, as well as on infectious disease in general took part in the workshop. The participating journalists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine discussed a wide range of health issues, particularly related to influenza and infectious disease.
