University closes after terrorist threat in Pakistan's capital
Announcing the three day immediate closure of the university from Thursday to Saturday, university Director Planning & Coordination Muhammad Siraj uz Zaman said that the institute would be reopened after the clearance from the security officials.
According to police sources, some unknown person Thursday morning called the university phone and threatened to attack the university with bombs. After it all the students in faculties and residing in university hostels were asked to vacate the university within no time.
The university administration had already postponed its convocation due to security reasons.
"Due to the prevailing security situation in the country, the convocation has been postponed. Fresh date of the convocation will be announced in due course," the message showed at university website.
Police reached the university and is trying to trace the phone call with the help of other security agencies.
NUML, established in 1970, offers courses and degrees in 23 languages in addition to many emerging arts and sciences subjects under the teaching of local and foreign teachers.
The threat to the university was taken as a very series case by local police because many hundred foreigners are regular students of the university and the university is also present in the downtown of capital Islamabad, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com
