Up to 73 thousand children under 14 contract SARS in Zhambyl rgn

 10% of the population of Zhambyl region has contracted SARS, of whom 60% are children under 16, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports. 

According to the sanitary epidemiological control department of Zhambyl region, 121,995 people, of whom 73,172 children under 14, have been infected with SARS since October 1 in Zhambyl region. Of these, 35 thousand have contracted SARS in the past two weeks.

Regionwide, 97,522 people at risk have been vaccinated during the pre-epidemic period.

The department pointed out a 4fold rise in the average number of SARS and flu cases in Zhambyl region during the current epidemiological season, which it attributes to the changing weather conditions, sudden cold snap, high humidity, and decreased immunity.
