URGENT: Former Chairman of Customs Control Committee arrested - Financial Police

ASTANA. February 6. KAZINFORM On February 3, 2012, the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Fighting Economic and Corruption Crimes (Financial Police) has initiated criminal cases against former Chairman of the Customs Control Committee of the Kazakh Ministry of Finance Serik Baimaganbetov on the facts of abuse of office and bribery on an especially large scale.

As the Financial Police's press release reads, the same day Baimaganbetov was detained and placed in a temporary detention center of the Astana department of internal affairs. On February 5 he was arrested with the approval of the Saryarka district court of Astana city.

The criminal cases are under investigation.
