Urgent measures must be taken - President on traffic jams in Astana
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev urged the Government to take prompt measures to address the issue of traffic congestion in the Kazakh capital of Astana, Kazinform News Agency reports.

“In order to solve the pressing issues in the capital and beautify the city, significant work is required, we are all witnesses to this. In general, the akim (mayor) of the city works consistently and is experienced. At the same time, the problem of traffic jams remains a pressing one for the [Kazakh] capital, necessitating the implementation of prompt measures and solutions. Another key task is to construct processing facilities, this goes for all major cities and regions,” the Head of State noted.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has indicated that the quality of housing built, construction of underground utilities, and repair works must receive greater scrutiny.
As earlier reported, the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has backed the Government’s proposition to raise value-added tax rate.
