US Assistant Secretary Blake, Kazakh Secretary of State Saudabayev talked over phone

ASTANA. December 18. KAZINFORM Kazakh Secretary of State and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev talked over phone with US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake on December 16.

Mr. Blake congratulated K. Saudabayev and all Kazakhstanis on Independence Day; Kazinform refers to the Kazakh MFA's press service.

The US diplomat, on behalf of US leadership, informed Kazakhstan, as one of the strategic partners, of the forthcoming statement by President Barack Obama on the updated US strategy for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

As is known, the situation in Afghanistan was one of the key topics at the OSCE Summit in Astana. R. Blake expressed gratitude for the excellent organization and successful holding of the Summit and thanked Kazakhstan and its President for the support of international efforts on stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan. In particular, he pointed out Kazakhstan's initiative to educate Afghan students and contribution to the activity of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.

K. Saudabayev expressed gratitude to the United States for the support of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in OSCE and holding of the Astana Summit.

The parties expressed satisfaction with the dynamic development of bilateral relations and noted the existence of a solid foundation for further strengthening and developing cooperation.
