US chooses Boston as candidate city for 2024 Summer Olympics

NEW YORK. KAZINFORM The US Olympic Committee has selected Boston as a candidate city to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, USOC Chairman Larry Probst has said.

The three other finalists were Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington. "We're excited about our plans to submit a bid for the 2024 Games and feel we have an incredibly strong partner in Boston that will work with us to present a compelling bid," Probst said in a statement. The United States hosted four Summer Olympic Games - in St. Louis (1904), Los Angeles (1932 and 1984) and Atlanta (1996). The US also hosted four Winter Olympic Games - in Lake Placid (1932 and 1980), Squaw Valley (1960) and Salt Lake City (2002), TASS reports. The winning bid will be announced in 2017. The applications will be submitted from September 15 until April-May 2016. Russia's second-largest city St. Petersburg may also become one of the candidate cities.
