Ust-Kamenogorsk hosts Day of Belorussian culture and history

UST-KAMENOGORSK. August 13. KAZINFORM /Lyudmila Malko/ The Day of Belorussian culture and history dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Belorussia's compact settlement in Kazakhstan is celebrated today in East-Kazakhstan oblast.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belorussia to Kazakhstan Vassily Gapeyev, Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan Yeraly Togzhanov, Head of the National Belorussian Union, Majilis Deputy of the Kazakh Parliament Leonid Pitalenko and heads of the Belorussian unions from different cities of Kazakhstan take part in the event. The event is scheduled for August 13-15.

The participants will visit sights of Ust-Kamenogorsk city, as well as take part in a press-conference, ethnic exhibits, cultural programs and etc.

"The first Belorussian families - Mitskevitch, Sklyarnikovykh, Korneichik, Ugolnikovykh, Podskrepko arrived in East-Kazakhstan oblast from Mogilevsk Province, Belorussia. Their village was named Maryinogorsk", Head of the Belorussian Union Vladimir Magazinshchikov said.

About 3,312 Belorussian people live in the region from which 933 live in Ust-Kamenogorsk. The Belorussian ethnic and cultural unions are in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Shemonaikhin and Borodulikhin municipalities (rayon).

It should be noted that the issues of interethnic accord and peace are the priorities for the internal policy of Kazakhstan. For all the nations living in Kazakhstan this land became their motherland.
