Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are set to switch to a full free trade regime to raise commodity turnover to $10 billion, Kazinform News Agency learned from Podrobno.uz.

This issue was discussed at the 21st session of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission for the Bilateral Cooperation chaired by both countries' prime ministers.

Given the geopolitical and rapidly changing situation in the world, the sides pointed out that further strengthening of mutual cooperation between the two countries in all areas gains as much importance as never before.

“With the effective use of the existing reserves, we need to increase the volume of mutual trade to $10 billion in the coming years. For this, we need to strengthen systematic work to substitute imports from third countries and switch to a full free trade regime,” a statement from the Uzbek Prime Minister’s press service reads.

The meeting also discussed the issues of industrial cooperation, transport and transit, strengthening interregional ties, development of cooperation in energy, agriculture, science and education, culture and other spheres.

It should be reminded that President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Rakhmonov is set to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan soon.
