Uzbekistan to explore China’s experience in using small modular reactors
As part of participation at the Shanghai EXPO-2024, Director of the Uzbek Agency for Atomic Energy (UzAtom) Azim Akhmedkhadjaev met a delegation of the CNOC (subsidiary of CNNC) to discuss cooperation issues, Kazinform News Agency reports.
According to Uzatom Agency, the meeting focused on the prospects for implementation of joint nuclear energy industry, as well as long-term cooperation initiatives.
Following the visit, an agreement was concluded on mutual cooperation with the CNNC in peaceful use of atomic energy, on detailed discussion of the opportunities of studying China’s experience in nuclear power plants construction and the possibility of using China’s small modular reactors in Uzbekistan, a press release from Uzatom reads.
The sides also discussed cooperation in expanding the capacities of uranium ore production, processing, and export of high-value added products and subsequent use of fuel at the nuclear power plants.
