Veteran of Kazakhstan’s diplomatic service Sailau Batyrshauly unveils Kazakhstan’s role in UN
Sailau Batyrshauly, veteran of Kazakhstan’s diplomatic service, professor of the Eurasian National Gumilyov University, doctor of economic sciences, spoke on Kazakhstan’s role in the UN during a regular meeting of SöZ Astana Public Talk discussion platform held on Wednesday on the occasion of Republic Day, Kazinform News Agency reports.
He said the UN appreciated the economic, military, and strategic potential of Kazakhstan when it decided to appoint Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the post of Deputy Secretary General of the UN and Director General of the UN Office in Geneva.
Sailau Batyrshauly emphasized that another important factor, of course, was a rich experience of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, including his work in China, Singapore, and many international commissions.
In his words, the activity of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who was responsible for the entire work of the UN Office in Geneva, was highly appreciated by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Thanks to this, Kazakhstan gained the opportunity to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council
