Voting in referendum on NPP construction ends in the U.S.

Voting in the nationwide referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan ended at polling stations No. 381, 382 and 440 at the diplomatic missions of Kazakhstan in the U.S., Kazinform News Agency reports.

Members of the district referendum election commissions in Washington, New York and San Francisco proceeded to count the votes.

Kazakhstanis staying in the U.S. noted they came to cast their votes, to discharge civic duty on a critical decision on which the future of Kazakhstan will depend and to support the President’s policy to raise transparency of the country’s democratic processes.

As earlier reported, the Central Referendum Commission announced the preliminary results of the voting according to which 71.12% of citizens voted for the NPP construction. Exit polls also showed close results.
