We aim to bring volume of transit transportation to 45mln tons, says Kazakh PM Bektenov at EIGC meeting
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov of Kazakhstan discussed the key aspects of cooperation with his counterparts from the EAEU during the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Moscow, Russia, Kazinform News Agency cites primeminister.kz.
Attending the meeting were the heads of government of the EAEU member countries and observer states.
Kazakh government head Bektenov drew special attention to enhancing and developing the EAEU’s transport and logistics and connectivity.
During the May summit, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the importance of upgrading and expanding the infrastructure of logistics corridors. It’s planned to boost the throughput capacity of North-South corridor from 10 to 20 million tons per year. The concept of the development of railway transport until 2029 seeks to develop divisional points and build railway networks. That way, we aim to bring the volume of transit transportation from 28 to 45 million tons, lay down around 5,000km of new and second railway tracks, said Bektenov.
The Kazakh Premier pointed out the importance to step up the implementation of priority infrastructure projects of the Union.
Bektenov stressed that successful adoption of advanced digital technologies would lead to growth in mutual trade, reduction in administrative burden on business. He highlighted the importance of joint efforts to launch the EAEU integrated information system, contributing to expedite exchanges of data and electronic documents between the member countries, especially in sanitary, phytosanitary, transport and customs control.
Following the meeting, the participants signed a number of documents as well as adopted decisions aimed at increasing the efficiency of integration processes, implementing joint projects and promoting new opportunities for business and citizens of the EAEU member countries.
The next meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council is to take place in January 2025 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
