WHO Director General commends Kazakhstan’s healthcare progress
Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Ghebreyesus named Kazakhstan one of the leaders in primary healthcare, Kazinform News Agency reports.
Taking the floor at the international conference dedicated to the 5th anniversary of Astana and 45th anniversary of Alma-Ata declarations on PHC, he said he is honored to come back to Kazakhstan. He also thanked President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Minister Azhar Giniyat for the leadership in PHC, as well as for the organization of this conference which united outstanding professionals and colleagues in this field.
The Director General of the WHO stated that since gaining its independence, Kazakhstan has achieved a significant progress in improvement of wellbeing of its citizens and health of the people by taking the PHC approaches.
In his words, this includes a broader access to family medicine, development of healthcare personnel, development of critical infrastructure and use of healthcare system effectiveness evaluation.
According to him, Kazakhstan raised its position in the global healthcare index from 2009 to 2020 and improved provision of healthcare services. He said the results had become much higher in the European region itself. The results for ten years have almost doubled, this is probably one of the highest rates precisely in the context of increasing life expectancy in such a short period.
