ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Residents of Karelia and the Arctic have witnessed an unusual natural phenomenon - the aurora (or northern lights), according to transmits newsru.com.

According to "Rossiyskaya Gazeta", the glow was "extraordinarily beautiful": it was observed over the lake Konchezero, Kandalaksha and Alakurtti in the Murmansk region and in the Karelian town of Segezha. "Yuzhniy Federalniy" portal notes that the heavenly glow has been seen in the Leningrad region. According to the portal, a resident of the city of Apatity, Murmansk region, the photographer Valentin Zhiganov captured the northern lights on video. It was reported that he had spent several hours at twenty degrees of frost in order to make photos and the video.
