World Cup in ice-skating to be held in «Alau» Ice Palace

KAZINFORM - On November 29, a unique event - World Cup in ice-skating - starts in the Ice Palace “Alau” in Astana. 200 strongest sportsmen of the planet from 30 countries - world stars, Olympic prize winners and world champions - will come to Astana to compete for Olympic licenses, astana.kz reports.

There will be confrontation of Kazakhstan national team and world stars in ice-skating. Elimination for the Olympic Games is becoming more difficult by the time. Rivalry is increasing. To participate in Sochi at the distance of 10 000 meters, one has to be in the 16 best at the World Cups”, - it is reported in the message.

Considering the ice quality in “Alau” and incredibly high level of pre-Olympic training of sportsmen, there are grounds for believing that in Astana we can be eyewitnesses of a historical event - a new world record.

From Kazakhstan national team the competition against “flying Dutchmen” will involve the country’s best long-distance runner Dmitry Babenko, who achieved a new national record at the distance of 3000 meters in Canada before the start of the World Cup series.

Being the host team, Kazakhstan national team has a right to present maximum number of sportsmen at the home Cup - five people for each distance. This will allow the coaching staff to involve the national staff team in the competition for Olympic licenses.

Let us recall, that the chief coach of the national team Vadim Sayutin has made commitments to win 5-6 licenses and one medal at the Games. The national team will include a current world champion Denis Kuzin, multiple champions and record-holders of the Republic Ekaterina Aidova, Roman Krech, Alexander Zhigin, Fedor Mezentsev.

Let us recall, that the World Cup stage in Astana will have the following schedule:

November 29. Women: 500m, 5000m. Men: 1500 m.
November 30. Women: 500m, 1500m. Men: 500m, 1000m.
December 1. Women: 1000m. Men: 500m, 10000m.
