ALMATY. March 8. KAZINFORM - Today is International Women's Day which highlights the achievements of women in political, economic and social fields. People celebrate the past, present and future of women in the world. The holiday is celebrated by the UN, and in some countries this day is a national holiday.
In 1910, in Copenhagen, there took place the 2nd International Conference of Working Women. The leader of the women's group of the Social Democratic Party of Germany Clara Zetkin proposed the idea of celebrating International Women's Day. She suggested celebrating it every year in every country on the same day. The purpose of the holiday Zetkin called women's struggling for their rights.
On this day women from all the continents, often divided by national boundaries or by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, can come together and remember the tradition that represents at least a couple of decades of struggling for equality, justice, peace and development .
