The world No. 4 Elena Rybakina has issued an apology to her Kazakhstani fans for withdrawing from women’s tennis competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Elena Rybakina pulled out of the Paris 2024 Olympics after being diagnosed with acute bronchitis. She was set to be seeded third in the women's tennis competition. However, her doctors recommended her not to travel to the French capital. She announced her decision shortly after the draw was revealed.

The Kazakhstan Tennis Federation’s YouTube channel released a video message of the 25-year-old tennis player apologizing to her fans.

Elena Rybakina apologized for ‘not justifying expectations and hopes’ of her fans. She also expressed her disappointment, noting that she works hard with her team and would very much like to bring a medal.

“I am optimistic that I will be able to get back on court soon. I would like to express my gratitude to all my compatriots, because I feel their colossal support playing around the world. It makes me extremely happy to see the flags at the stadiums. A big thank you and I hope to get back on court in the nearest future," Rybakina said.
