World Taekwondo Championship to take place in Dushanbe
DUSHANBE. KAZINFORM - Over 600 fighters from 50 countries and regions will take part in the World Taekwondo Championship in Dushanbe from August 7 to 11, the State Committee on Youth, Sports and Tourism said on Tuesday.
The championship will be held in Tajikistan for the first time by the initiative of the National Taekwondo and Kickboxing Federation under the support of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Xinhua reported.
The national team of Tajikistan consists of 43 athletes, including 20 women. The fighters will compete for 130 sets of medals.
Taekwondo, developed by a variety of Korean masters during the 1940s, combines combat and self-defense techniques with sport and exercise.
