Yaroslava Shvedova crowned Kazakhstan №1 in tennis

ASTANA. KAZINFORM – Yaroslava Shvedova has once again been crowned as Kazakhstan’s №1 in tennis, Kazinform has learnt from Vesti.kz. The 26-year-old Shvedova climbed five spots and surpassed Galina Voskoboeva, also of Kazakhstan, in the updated WTA ranking.

Last week Shvedova reached the third round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells in which she lost to Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki in three sets. This result allowed her to rise to №59 of the WTA ranking. The 29-year-old Voskoboeva who missed the tournament slumped to №63. Another Kazakhstani tennis player Zarina Diyas leaped 13 spots and is currently ranked 105th. Yulia Putintseva moved from №158 to №154. As for the top 10 of the WTA ranking, Serena Williams dominates at the №1 spot with 12 660 points. Li Na of China and Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland complete the top 3 of the ranking. Maria Sharapova of Russia fell to world №7.
