Young dombra players from Karaganda win 2023 Dubai Music Festival’s Grand Prix
Karaganda-based ensemble Shalkyma of the Karakat school studio won the Grand Prix of the 2023 Dubai Music Festival, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
11 dombra players aged from 8 to 14 took the audience with a synchronous, masterful performance of Sekirtpe kui (a composition played on dombra, long-necked, two-stringed instrument of the Kazakh people).
The contest brought together young talents from India, Pakistan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Saudi Arabia.
Our dombra players made a splash. They performed quite confidently and played dombra masterfully and synchronously in various techniques, teacher of Karakat studio school Zhanibek Kazbekuly says.
13-year-old soloists of the school Nurassyl Serik and Bakdaulet Abdykanov also won the Grand Prix of the event. Samgar Baltakay and Ayadil Duissen were also named the prizewinners of the event.
