Z.Jakab: Strategies in Kazakhstan not merely formed, but implemented

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Erlan Idrissov has held a meeting with WHO Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab in Astana, the press service of the ministry reports.

The Kazakh minister congratulated Z.Jakab on the opening of the geographically remote office of the World Health Organization for primary health care in Almaty that was opened on February 11. He acclaimed the expansion of cooperation between Kazakhstan and WHO and expressed hope that the opening of the office would help to improve people's health in Kazakhstan. It was noted at the meeting that Kazakhstan, WHO and the WHO Regional Bureau for Europe enjoy dynamically developing partnership relations. E.Idrissov expressed gratitude to the WHO for the support rendered to Kazakhstan in achieving the health related Millennium Goals. Speaking of implementation of "Salamatty Kazakhstan" Healthcare Program for 2011-2015 and development of a new state program on healthcare development, E.Idrissov thanked the WHO European Bureau for consultations and technical support. According to Z.Jakab, the mission of the organization is to assist the country in improvement of the health of people. She complemented the improvements on the 4th and 5th Millennium Goals (child and maternal mortality rates) and emphasized that one of the goals of "Kazakhstan 2050" Strategy is improvement of people's health. She also emphasized the instructions of the President given at the enlarged sitting of the Government not to cut the financing of the healthcare and education spheres. Resuming her speech, the WHO Regional Director for Europe said the organization will continue expanding cooperation with Kazakhstan and assisting in improvement of the TB situation in the country. "The thing I like about Kazakhstan is that strategies here are not merely formed, but also implemented," she said.
