Zhanaozen commandant denies rumors that riots death toll exceeds official announcement

ANAOZEN, Mangystau region. December 21. KAZINFORM /Aituar Mamlin/ Zhanaozen commandant Amanzhol Kabylov denies that the death toll as a result of December 16 riots is more than it was previously announced by the General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan.

During the operational-investigative activities 14 people have been confirmed dead. To date, eight people have been arrested. Five people were detained on suspicion of involvement in the riots. Internet and phone cell service is fully restored, markets, taxis, drugstores are in operation, Kabylov said.
