He was born in Pavlodar oblast. His family was penurious, but his great-grandfathers Dandebai and Kuan were honorable and literati. From the childhood he learnt the Arabic reading and writing, smithery and wood carving. Zhussipbek studied in the Bayanaul Russian School, public agricultural school in Kereku (Pavlodar) and etc. In 1929 he was committed to a prison on a charge of nationalism. After a long investigation Z.Aimauytov was sentenced to death by the absentee ballot in 1931. Scientists of the M.Auezov Institute of Literature and Art studied Z.Aimauytov?s heritage, and published it in five volumes in 1996-1999. The album includes his songs and poem ?Nur kuii?, plays ?Rabiga?, ?Mansapkorlar?, ?Sylan kyz?, ?Yel korgany? (?A protector of the people?), ?Kanapiya-Sharbanu?, a lot of tales, novels ?Kartkozha, ?Akbilek?, story ?Kunikeidin zhazygy? (?Guilt of Kunikei?), critiques and translations. He translated works of W.Shakespeare, V.Hugo, G. Maupassant, A.Dumas, A.Pushkin, R.Tagore into the Kazakh language. In 1918-1919 together with M.Auezov he published ?Abai? journal in Semipalatinsk. Z.Aimauytov is a founder of drama art. He was a director-producer of his own plays on the Kazakh scene. One of the outstanding works ?Sherniyaz? dedicated to a memory of S.Toraigyrov touches upon a problem of relationship of a city and a village.
