24 comfortable schools to be built in Astana – Mayor Kassymbek

24 new schools will be built in Astana under the Comfortable School national project, Kazinform News Agency quotes Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek as saying at a briefing today.

According to Kassymbek, the number of school-age children in the city increases by an average of 20,000 people.

“To address the problem, 18 schools including 11 ‘comfortable’ ones have already been commissioned since January 2024. In general, 24 two-shift schools for 90,000 students are set to be built in Astana under the Comfortable School project,” he said.

"Next year we plan to build and put into operation around 20 new schools,” the Mayor added.

Apart from that, the municipal authorities plan to build 60 public kindergartens until 2029. The construction of 10 kindergartens for 3,000 children has already been launched at the first stage. 17 private kindergartens are under construction too.

Zhenis Kassymbek also reminded of the task set by the President to build 15 new palaces of schoolchildren in Astana. Two of them are already operating, another three are under construction, and the others are at the design stage.

The libraries in Astana are also transformed into the modern cultural spaces. Four new libraries have been opened in the capital, while another seven libraries will be modernized and opened next year.

Previously, Kazinform reported that 40% of ‘comfortable’ schools had been built in rural areas.
