One of the ancient Kazakh rituals, the Betashar or "revealing of the face", was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage underway in Asunción, Republic of Paraguay, his post reads.

The Betashar ritual symbolizes the opening of a new stage in the bride's life. The bride's face is covered with a veil, and only after a special ritual performed during a wedding ceremony, the veil is removed, and the bride greets her new relatives.
