Kazakhstan increases domestic science funding by 3.5fold

During the meeting, the Kazakh leader was briefed about the outcomes of the Academy’s activities over the past year.

The Head of State was informed that the comprehensive work was carried out last year to assess the state of domestic science and identify priority areas of its promotion.

According to Kurishbayev, 113 scientific and technical tasks under program-target financing were examined as well as three integrated interdisciplinary scientific and technical programs were developed in 2024.

President Tokayev highlighted the need for further systemic measures to boost the potential of domestic science.

It was noted that the government had been tasked to expedite resolution of legal issues relating to the implementation of the decree, according to which the National Academy of Sciences is granted a status of the highest scientific organization under the President.

Kazakhstan increased science funding by 3.5fold, adopted the new law on science and technological policy, enhanced measures for social support of young scholars.

During the meeting, the Head of State set the Academy a number of tasks.

Earlier it was reported that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan had addressed the issue of food security while delivering his speech at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2025 in the UAE.
